Amager Bio, Copenhagen (DK)
A few months ago, the dates were revealed for the new Steel Panther tour. We quickly found out they were coming to Oslo on February 17th, but the venue they were going to play was Rockefeller, where you can't get in unless you're 18 or older (the venue was later changed to Sentrum Scene, where they at some shows allow people under 18 to enter on the balcony, but not this show). Therefore we started checking out our possibilities, and decided to go to Amager Bio in Copenhagen to see them instead, where they let in people aged 8+. Therefore we fixed concert and plane tickets and booked a room through Airbnb that was right by the venue (it took us 3 minutes to walk there!), and all we had to do was wait.
When the long awaited day finally arrived, we got up at 5 in the morning. Our plane arrived in Copenhagen somewhere around 10:30, so we took the metro to Lergravsparken Station, went to the apartment we were going to stay in, talked to our hosts, and went straight out to Copenhagen city centre for some shopping (you can see some of the coolest places we visited in our previous post). We spent a little too much time there, so we had to rush back to our apartment to reach the VIP in time. Fortunately we made it in addition to the VIP opening being a little late, and we got to know a couple of new people both in line and inside the VIP section.
When we were let inside, we received a laminate and a cool goodiebag containing a pair of panties, a fake ticket, info on where to get our M&G photos and two condoms.
When it was our turn, they signed the stuff we brought while we talked for quite a while - I was surprised at how long we were allowed to stand there just talking (especially compared to the photo sessions at The KISS Kruises, where the whole process literally takes ten seconds). While I mostly spoke to Michael, Stix and Satchel (who by the way mentioned my bitchin' Metal Threads pants), Benjamin was busy talking to Lexxi and giving him the mirror we made for him (Benjamin seems to forget we both did it). Then it was time for the photos, and the results?
When they were done they left, and we waited for the doors to open. Because we were VIPs, we got in before everyone else, and ended up front row (of course) facing Satchel.
First out were Blackwater, a British band who were actually surprisingly good, but still not quite my style in some way. They got the crowd going, and before we knew it, The Number Of The Beast started playing, everyone sang along, and the band entered the stage. That feeling is hard to describe; Seeing one of your favorite bands coming out after a night that already could have been deemed successful, the crowd going crazy, and knowing this is going to be awesome. They started off with Eyes Of A Panther, and the rest of the setlist can be seen below:
- Eyes Of A Panther
- Tomorrow Night
- Asian Hooker
- Just Like Tiger Woods
- Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World
- Let Me Cum In
- Satchel's guitar solo
- Turn Out The Lights
- Glory Hole
- The Burden Of Being Wonderful
- Gold Digging Whore
- It Won't Suck Itself
- Death To All But Metal
------------ Encore ------------
- Community Property
- 17 Girls In A Row
- Party All Day
But guys. I know, I know, when you're at a show, you have to be prepared to meet all kinds of people. Still, there are some things that annoy me. Pushing people to the side using your elbows to create more space for yourself when you already have more than enough is not OK. Leaning your arms on other people's shoulders/heads can be very annoying for a person trying to enjoy themselves at a show. Pouring beer all over the people standing around you is unnecessary and only causes you to waste the beer you in my opinion paid too much for already. Punching other people in the head is OK if it's by accident, but if you're doing so repeatedly without caring you're just being an asshole.
These things didn't really affect my night too much, though. And it got even more awesome when I was brought up on stage. At first they let a few girls up at the beginning of Gold Digging Whore, and I wasn't really sure if I should go for it or not, without really knowing why I was thinking like that - but right at the end of the song I decided to go for it and jumped up on stage. And it was awesome. After dancing with the guys and some of the girls, being spanked by Satchel and kissed by Michael, we were taken down from the stage and the band went off as well, before the encore.
We decided not to go to the afterparty, for two reasons: Benjamin was really tired, and we weren't sure if I could get in (later we found out it was 18+, so we were right and relieved we didn't miss out on anything). So we went back to our apartment after the best night ever.
Everyone who has ever been to a really good show knows the feeling of slight depression and hopelessness when it's over. You're not sure what to do with yourself now; It's like the meaning of life has been drained from you. All you have left, are the memories of an awesome night. Hopefully I'll get to experience it all again sometime very soon.
